Spirit of Faith Christian Center (SOFCC) was founded by Dr. Michael A. Freeman, in October 1993. For the first three and a half years of the ministry, services were held in the auditorium of Anacostia High School. Continuing to follow God's mandate for his life, Dr. Freeman sought God for a place to house the vision that God had given him for SOFCC.
With a strong witness from God, Dr. Freeman led the congregation to the abandoned storefronts and property formerly known as Oxon Run Plaza. When he first approached the owner, regarding the cost of the property, the owner laughed because of the ministry's financial status. This did not move Dr. Freeman in the least because he firmly believes that "No" today doesn't mean "No" tomorrow. He stood on Ezekiel 36:33-36 concerning having the property to house the vision:
33 Thus saith the Lord God; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. 34 And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. 35 And they shall say, this land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. 36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the Lord build the ruined places and plant that that was desolate: I the Lord have spoken it, and I will do it.
Two years later, Oxon Run Plaza became what is now the first church home of SOFCC, Faith Plaza.
